Open Squares (Open Mesh)
Filet consists of squares worked with ch and dc. Each square is made of [ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 dc].
The first dc in each row is made with 3 chains.

Filled squares (solid mesh)
To fill a square, work [2 dc in ch 2 space or in each dc in row below, 1 dc]

Increase 1 open square at beginning of row
At the end of previous row, ch 8 (3-ch for bottom of square, 3-ch for first dc, 2-ch for top of square),
turn and 1 dc in last dc of previous row.

Increase 2 open squares at beginning of row
At the end of previous row, ch 11 (6-ch for bottom of square, 3-ch for first dc, 2-ch for top of first
additional square), 1 dc in ch #3 of the 11-ch, ch 2, 1 dc in last dc of
previous row. For each additional square work 3 more ch.

Increase 1 open square at end of row
Ch 2 at the end of the row, thread over hook 3 times, insert hook into same sp of last dc, work 1 dtr.

Increase 2 open squares at end of row
Ch 2 at the end of the row, thread over hook 3 times, insert hook into same sp of last dc, work 1 dtr, [ch 2,
thread over hook 3 times, insert hook in corner of dtr, work 1 dtr]. For each
additional square [ch 2, 1 dtr].

Decrease 1 open square
Work 1 incomplete dc, then 1 dtr.

Decrease 2 open squares
Work 1 incomplete dc, thread over hook 3 times, insert hook in top of dc of first square, work 1 incomplete dc,
thread over hook 3 times. Insert hook in end lp and work off 2 lp at a time
until 3 lp remain. Crochet off through all 3 lps.

Lacet Stitch
First row: work ch 3, sk 2 sts, 1 sc (into dc of previous row), ch 3, sk 2 sts, 1 dc (into dc of next square of
previous row) sts always goes over 2 squares.
Second row: work ch 5, 1 dc into dc of previous row.

Rectangles
You may have to start the lacet stitch with a row of rectangles (row 1).
Work ch 5, skip 5 sts, 1 dc. Then in next row, start with lacet stitch.
Sometimes an entire area is done in rectangles.

Big Squares
First row: work last filled square, ch 9, sk 5 sts, dc.
